Reading: Students
will begin reader’s theater next week. They should bring home their script
every night to practice reading their parts. Reader’s Theater is a great way to
build fluency. I especially want you to learn to read with expression. We will
practice all week and have a full play on Friday. Parents are welcome to attend
as our audience.
What is Reader’s Theater? Check it out… http://www.scholastic.com/librarians/programs/whatisrt.htm
Math: In my class
we will begin chapter 3. We will begin front end estimation, adding with
regrouping, four digit addition, and larger numbers.
Social Studies:
Presentations for the cultural regions will be due on Friday. Students, you
will have time this week to work in the lab, but time is limited, and some work
on the PowerPoint may need to be done at home.
We must finish this up this week. There will be no extensions into the
following week. Be sure to bring your item to share with the class on Friday.
It can be anything that connects to your region including traditional food,
clothing, dances, games, etc… You only
need one thing to share. J
The gist for parents:
Students will create a 10-11 slide PowerPoint Presentation on their region.
Slide one will be the name of the region with a map of their
region.
Slides two-three will describe the type of group they
are…nomadic, hunters, gathers, fishermen, farmers, etc… with pictures depicting
their way of life. These slides will
also include some of the Nations
such as Cheyenne, Inuit, Shawnee, etc… Students do not need to add all Nations,
(tribes).
Slides 3-8 will show pictures of their culture…food,
clothing, ceremonial dances or rituals, social structure, government etc…
Students will need to mainly add pictures with very little wording. They should
be able to tell about the pictures based on what they learned.
Slides 9-11 will include any other information students want
to share after learning about this cultural region.
The last slide will include their sources. Sources just need to be listed.
We may try to go ahead and start talking about European arrival in
North America and Mesoamerica.
Science: We will
study Vascular and Nonvascular plants, photosynthesis, and plant reproduction.
Here are a few of the sites I will
add to my blog…
