We are not able to do a Science test, or a Spelling test on Friday. The electricity review for the test will be your last Science grade. The poetry spelling test is just canceled.
We will continue learning with experiments, reading shares, our time line, and end of year baseline tests.

A Look Ahead 5-11
Casto’s Look Ahead 5-11
Spelling:
We will not have a test this week. I want you to spend the extra time to be prepared for the Science Fair on Wednesday. Your project must be at school on Tuesday.
Reading: Your individual book report is due Monday.
We begin poetry this week. Art goes right into poetry. The last spelling/vocab. test you will take will be on terms that you will learn and use this week.
Math: We will finish chapter 13 on Decimals this week. I hope to have the test by Friday. We will be moving fairly quickly. You will find the homework connection in your workbooks from pages 153-163. The plan is to cover two lessons a day.
Science: Make sure to have your Science Fair projects ready to bring to school on Tuesday. The fair is Wednesday. We will trace the path of an electric current through a closed circuit, make a closed circuit, and test insulators and conductors, and series circuit.
Social Studies: We got a little sidetracked with coal and cookie coal mining, so this week we are going to focus back on the changes in transportation, jobs, and tourism over the last few hundred years in West Virginia.

Reading:
This may be our final week for our Lit. groups. I know you are all on the brink of finishing, however if we need to move into next week we will. You will need to have your individual book report by the 15. Remember that you can do a traditional written report, or a creative report as long as all five story elements are included. This week we will make a large version of the story elements mountain. I am sure you will encounter the climax of your books very soon. When we finish Lit. groups, we will go into one of my most favorite areas to teach...poetry. :)
Math: Our Chapter 12 practice test on division will be Monday, and the test is planned for Tuesday. We will move into Chapter 13 on decimals Wednesday, if all goes according to plan.
Social Studies: You will finish up your in class mini-report on you choice from chapter 11, and present it orally. On Tuesday, we will move over to our West Virginia books. We will use chapter 8-11 among other resources to compare West Virginia’s population, products, resources, and transportation over the last 200 years.
Science: We will get into our new booklets on electricity. This week we will identify sources of electricity and you will learn our electricity is used. We will open and close circuits, find the best conductors and insulators, as well as examine a incandescent light bulb. We will have many little labs over the next two weeks. :)
